The Antony Parish Council met to discuss various community matters, make key decisions regarding local amenities, review financial reports, and address ongoing issues impacting the village. Significant outcomes included updates on play areas, environmental concerns, and important financial approvals.

Key Decisions

  • Play Area Improvements: Maintenance work at Antony play park has been completed. The council will identify and cost new picnic benches for Wilcove play area and new equipment for Antony play area.
  • Antony Phone Box Defibrillator: Discussions are underway regarding the potential purchase of a defibrillator for the Antony phone box, with Councillor Bulmer pursuing options.
  • Wilcove Woodland Walk Grant: A grant of up to £4,000 from the Solar Benefit Fund was approved for urgent maintenance of the Woodland Walk in Wilcove.
  • Antony Play Area PSPO: The Antony play area has been added to the Cornwall Council's "No dogs" Public Spaces Protection Order.
  • Memorial Tree: A Cherry tree will be purchased, with a maximum budget of £150, to commemorate the work of Mr. J Vigus in the parish.
  • Torpoint Wet Weather Pitch Donation: A £50 donation was approved to support Torpoint TCC's wet weather pitch.
  • Banking Change: The council agreed to change banking services from Barclays to Unity bank.
  • Annual Insurance: The council unanimously agreed to renew its annual insurance with Gibl insurers.
  • Community Grants Approved:
    • A grant of up to £2,500 was approved for Antony village hall.
    • A grant of up to £4,000 was approved for the Wilcove Community Association.
  • Annual Precept 2024/25: The Annual Precept for 2024/25 was unanimously approved at £14,000, with no increase.

Community Projects & Services

  • Antony School One-Way System: A temporary one-way system is being piloted at Antony school. Comments are welcome via the Cornwall Council website.
  • Antony Crossing Work: Work at the Antony crossing is scheduled to begin in February.
  • Tamar Trust Volunteer Schedule: A new volunteer schedule in connection with Tamar Trust is expected to start shortly.
  • Millbrook Skate Park: Work at the Millbrook Skate Park is commencing.
  • Wilcove Convex Mirror: A replacement mirror for Wilcove has been purchased and is awaiting fitting.

Drainage & Environmental Issues

  • Unsafe Trees: Work on unsafe trees in Antony is outstanding, pending action from Antony Estates.
  • Wilcove Flooding: Flooding and drainage issues in Wilcove, including a concrete slab and blocked culvert, are being addressed. A meeting will be arranged with Antony Estates, Highways, and Councillor Ewert. Villagers are encouraged to report any occurrences on the Cornwall Council portal.
  • Wilcove Sewage Leak: An environmental sewage leak near Beach Road in Wilcove, possibly from social housing septic tanks, has been reported to the Environment Agency. Details will be forwarded to Councillor Ewert for follow-up.
  • Untrimmed Hedges: Untrimmed hedges in Wilcove, not cut back by private landowners/tenants, will be reported to Cornwall Council.

Financial Overview

  • Solar Benefit Fund: The Solar Benefit Fund has £5,368.48 available.
  • Parish Council Funds: Excluding the Solar Community Benefit Fund, the Parish Council has £20,116.55 available.
  • Overall Financials: For 2023/24, total receipts were £15,042, and total payments were £12,930, with a carry-forward of £24,232.
  • Income: VAT reimbursement of £319.50 and interest of £55.56 were noted as income received.

Planning Applications

  • The planning report was reviewed and approved. Several applications, including those for Antony house stables, Beach cottage Wilcove, and Higher Tregantle farm, were approved by Cornwall Council.
