Key Updates from County Councillor Ewert

  • Bus Services: Discussions regarding cuts to bus services on the Rame Peninsula took place with Cornwall Council and Plymouth City Bus. Residents are strongly encouraged to use bus services more often to demonstrate their value and help prevent further cuts.
  • Roads & Footpaths:
    • The lane closure on the A374 between Antony and Sheviock has been removed, but further long-term repair work for subsidence will be needed.
    • Highway schemes put forward for the Rame Peninsula and St Germans division have been approved.
    • Reports of overgrown and impassable Gold Footpaths in the area have been escalated for attention.
  • A38 Safety Improvements: Planned safety packages for the Carkeel to Trerulefoot stretch of the A38 are expected to include average speed cameras, reduced speed limits, new crossings, and safer bus bays. Residents are encouraged to participate in the online consultation, with specific requests to extend speed reductions in Tideford, add a pedestrian crossing in Tideford, and improve the bus stop at Trerulefoot roundabout.
  • Community Housing: Issues identified at Council Housing properties in Millbrook during a recent inspection will be addressed by a maintenance team.
  • Local Infrastructure: An overgrown church lane will be reported to Cornwall Council, and design plans for Antony and Crafthole road improvements are nearing completion. Antony garages may be replaced by housing in the future.

Community Initiatives and Project Progress

  • Tregantle Parking: Yellow lines and posts are expected to be installed soon to address parking issues, followed by a Traffic Regulation Order.
  • Wilcove Jetty: A "no parking" sign for Wilcove jetty is awaiting installation.
  • Defibrillators: Two new defibrillator units have been ordered for installation on the external walls of Wilcove Community Hall and Wilcove Inn.
  • Antony Play Area: The play area fence is in need of repair, with Antony Estates being pursued for this work. Councillors are also working on securing protection around existing play equipment and obtaining quotes for additional equipment.
  • No Dumping Signage (Antony): A sign has been erected, and a laurel hedge planted to deter further dumping.
  • Queens Jubilee Celebrations: Events funded by the Parish Council were reported to be very successful.
  • Wilcove Flooding: A persistent flooding issue in the back lane of Wilcove will be reported to Cornwall Council.

  • Wilcove Woodland Walk: Mr M Shepherd was thanked for strimming the Wilcove woodland walk. Residents are reminded that the Wilcove Community Association (WCA) is responsible for such work and should be contacted for future maintenance.
  • Village Litter Picking: Ms Littlejohn was thanked for her regular efforts in picking up litter in the village.

Financial Approvals

  • A donation of (300) was approved from the Community Benefit funding for the Tamar Conservation Trust.
  • A donation of (100) was approved for the Wilcove Gardening Club to purchase plants for village planters.
  • The planning report for 2022/23 was reviewed and approved, which included several applications already approved by Cornwall Council.
  • Funding of (2,800) from the Solar Community Benefit Fund was allocated for the Wilcove defibrillators.
