The Antony Parish Council met on May 20th, 2015, making several key decisions regarding leadership and addressing ongoing community concerns and projects. Important discussions covered local policing, village infrastructure, and financial matters.
Key Decisions
- Councillor B Carter was elected as the new Chairperson for 2015/16.
- Lady D Coward was elected as the new Vice-Chairperson for 2015/16.
Community Updates & Actions
- Police Report: Three incidents were reported in the Parish for May 2015, including a sheep incident. A recent burglary in Wilcove was noted but not included in these statistics.
- Pengelly Park Parking: Following a complaint, Councillor P Knott will contact the Housing Association to address the matter.
- Antony Church Steps: Footpath number 5, running from Church Lane to Trelay, has been identified. The Clerk will confirm maintenance responsibility with Cornwall Council, and Councillor B Carter will visit the site.
- Tree Preservation Order: The Clerk will contact Planners regarding an order, obtain a copy for Councillor P Knott, and request updates on any related developments or extensions.
- St Austell Brewery Lorries: The Clerk had contacted the Brewery regarding an alternate route for lorries, but it was noted that this change has not yet been consistently observed.
- Neighbourhood Watch Signs: Twelve new Neighbourhood Watch signs will be ordered at a cost of £12.
- Pedestrian Crossing (Wilcove): The council decided not to pursue a pedestrian crossing due to high costs. Instead, they will consider speed camera signage, and the Clerk will contact Highways to discuss this option.
- Woodland Walk: A new sign has been placed on the Woodland Walk gate.
- Planning Applications: There were no new planning applications specific to the Parish. The Clerk will monitor the pre-application submitted for the Withnoe Wind Turbine due to limited available details. The Barne Barton Helipad application was also discussed, though the Parish Council typically does not receive details for Plymouth applications.
- Traffic Speeds (Jupiter Point): A letter concerning traffic speeds on the road to Jupiter Point was received from Mr. Watkiss. The issue will be referred to Cornwall Council Highways. The Clerk will acknowledge the letter and send a copy to Captain Belfield of HMS Raleigh.
- Potholes: The Clerk will report potholes at the old petrol station in Antony and outside Councillor P Knott's home to Highways.
Financial Matters
- A VAT rebate of £728.78 for the 2014/15 financial year was received and credited to the bank account.
- The 2014/15 financial accounts were approved by the council.
- Approved payments included £150.00 for the Millbrook Parish Council's Neighbourhood Plan 2015/16, and £27.80 to Councillor Lobb for materials purchased for a seat.
- An invoice for £440.62 will be prepared in June for the Wilcove Moorings Association.
- The council agreed to discuss setting the budget and calculating the Precept at the September meetings.
Council Operations
- The position of Clerk is still vacant. The current Clerk will continue in post until a replacement is found or the July meeting, whichever is sooner. The position will be advertised locally.
- It was noted that minutes should be published within the Parish, and they are also available online on the Torpoint Council website.

The next Parish Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7th, 2015, at 7:30 PM in the Village Hall, Wilcove.
