The Antony Parish Council met on September 28th, 2023, discussing a range of community matters, financial updates, and upcoming projects. Key outcomes include the co-option of a new Councillor, progress on local amenities, and important updates from the County Councillor.
Key Updates & Decisions
- New Councillor Co-opted: Mr. Knott has been co-opted as a new member of the Antony Parish Council.
- Antony School One-Way System: Public consultation for the new one-way system at Antony school is expected to begin shortly.
- Antony Crossing Work Postponed: Work on the Antony crossing has been delayed. Councillor Ewert will follow up on this.
- NHS Dentist in Torpoint: There is currently no NHS dentist in Torpoint. Residents are encouraged to write to the local MP for a solution.
- Electric Scooter Issues: Concerns regarding electric scooters in Torpoint and the peninsula will be raised with the police at an upcoming Network meeting by Councillor Ewert and Councillor Bulmer.
- Antony Play Area & Dogs PSPO: The Parish Council has requested that the Antony play area be included in the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to prohibit dogs. Results from Cornwall Council are awaited.
- Defibrillator Checks: Monthly checks for defibrillators in Wilcove will now be implemented by Councillor Murray, using forms obtained by the Clerk.
Community Projects & Amenities
- Play Area Improvements: A quote of £500 for Wilcove/Antony play area issues has been accepted, and the order placed. The Watts family also gifted an additional piece of play equipment for the Antony Play area. Discussions are ongoing regarding installing additional play equipment in Wilcove and Antony, with Councillors Bulmer and Murray to follow up on costings.
- Antony Phone Box: Work is awaiting a quote for maintenance, with a maximum budget of £500 allocated. The Council is also considering placing an additional defibrillator inside.
- Unsafe Trees in Antony: Antony Estates has agreed to add the removal or repair of unsafe trees to their schedule.
- Public Rights of Way in Wilcove: The Wilcove woodland walk requires urgent maintenance. The Parish Council will explore whether the Babcock volunteering scheme could assist with this project.
- Wacker Quay Update: The Parish Council has donated £400 to the Tamar Community Trust to cover the annual licence fee for Wacker Quay.
- Antony Bus Stop Bench: Plans are awaited from Cornwall Council to decide on the best location for a new bench.
- Wilcove Allotment Hedge Repair: This work has been completed.
- Pato Point Signage: A new sign has been installed at Pato Point by Councillor Murray.
- Abandoned Items Removed: An abandoned boat in Wilcove lake and two abandoned kayaks in Wilcove have been removed.
- Grating in Field/Woodland Walk: The concrete slab remains in situ, and the Clerk will follow up with Antony Estates.
- Wilcove Mirror: An additional bracket for the replacement convex mirror has been ordered but appears to be lost; Councillor Murray and the Clerk will follow up.

Financial Overview
- Solar Farm Community Benefit Fund: The report was reviewed and approved. Available funds as of September 30th, 2023, are £2,431.15 for Antony and £2,937.33 for Wilcove, totaling £5,368.48.
- Expenditure 2023/2024: Significant expenditures include costs for Coronation trees, contributions to the Tamar Community Trust, and various maintenance items.
- Income Received: The Council noted income of £100 from St John Parish Council for shared ICT equipment, £491 from Wilcove Moorings Association, and £7,000 from the Cornwall Council Precept.
- Total Funds Available: As of September 30th, 2023, the total funds available to the Parish Council stand at £28,840.73.
- Approved Future Expenditures: Additional expenditures were approved subject to invoice, including playground repairs (S. Fergus), a noticeboard for Hollong Park/Wilcove (max budget £1500), and repairs to the Antony phone box (max budget £500).
Upcoming Events & Meetings
- Wilcove Inn Firework Display: A road closure application has been made for this event, planned for November in Wilcove.
- Next Parish Council Meeting: The next meeting, which will include the Precept/annual budget setting, is provisionally scheduled for Thursday, December 7th, 2023, at 7:00 PM at Wilcove Community Hall.
